My 5 Best Posts of 2022

As 2022 comes to an end, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the posts I created this past year, and highlight the five I’m most proud of. This list isn’t a list of the posts that got the most views; it’s a list of the posts I felt the best about out of all of the ones I created in 2022.

Post #5: How to Find a Mentor at Work

This post is all about – you guessed it – finding a mentor at your place of work. Not only do mentors help guide their mentees, but often (not always) they can help open doors as well. Some of the most successful people I’ve met have attributed at least some of their success to surrounding themselves with outstanding mentors, and for that reason, I feel like this is one of the more important posts I’ve published this past year.

Post #4: What is Dollar-Cost Averaging in Investing?

This post gives an explanation of dollar-cost averaging, which is an important concept that can help people avoid panic-selling and other emotional choices during the investment cycle. In this post, I use examples to help illustrate how making regular contributions to your investments, including though a rough patch, can help you big-time in the long term.

Post #3: The Financial Advisor Role is Changing

Knowing that I want to become a Certified Financial Planner when I retire (so I can help other people do the same), this post is one I’ll probably come back to a few times over the coming years, to remind myself of what’s important to people when it comes to choosing a financial coach. It’s no longer just about helping families pick the right investments; people want their planner to understand how investing fits into their whole life and philosophy, and that’s exactly how it should be in my mind.

Post #2: How to Improve Your Credit Score

This one made the list of my top posts because it plays a role in helping people get out of the “can’t build credit because I have bad credit” cycle. Few people understand the factors that actually influence their credit score, and this post sums them up nicely. You can’t fix what you don’t understand, so taking in this knowledge is the first step to improving your credit score!

Post #1: 5 Great Coffee Chat Questions

This made #1 on my list of top posts because it’s both a post I’m really proud of, and one that has gotten a bit of traction. A few other sites seem to have linked to it, which is great; it means that people find the content useful! Coffee chats are a great way to meet new people in your field of work, but show up unprepared and you can squander the opportunity. This post gives a list of some of the most universally-relevant questions you can bring to the table to show that you’ve taken a real interest in the person you’re meeting with.

Wrapping it Up

So there you have it, my personal favourite posts from 2022. Next week I’ll be back with my annual tradition of reflecting on my personal year past, and setting some goals for 2023. I encourage you to do the same!
