5 Ways to Dress up Your Home This Fall

I love fall. I love the temperature outside, the changing colours, and the foods and flavours that it brings with it (pumpkin for the win).  It hasn’t really felt like it in my neck of the woods, but fall really is just around the corner. I always like to put out a few fall decorations and touches around the house to welcome the season. To that end, here are some of my favourite fall décor ideas I’ve seen so far.

Bigger, Thicker Textures

Seasonal touches like thick-woven throw blankets can really warm up a space. The key is to look for a variety of different textures and shapes, which helps add visual interest to a space. A thick-knit blanket alongside a few textured poufs and planter baskets will instantly make your living space feel ready for fall.

Seasonal Table Styling

Fall Décor Table

Fall flower arrangements, plaid table runners and ornamental corn accents are a great way to welcome fall to your dinner table. You can get creative with your placemats as well. Even here, texture will help you win the day!

Fall Planters Out Front

We might be gathering in smaller numbers right now (thanks, COVID), but you’ll still want to welcome guests with autumn planter arrangements on your front porch. Fall mums, potato vines and ornamental kale are just a few of the fall décor favourites that make for a classic seasonal planter.

Rock the Mantle

Fall Décor - Mantle

Mantles aren’t just for Christmas, you know! Spice it up a season earlier with a fall garland, some seasonal flower cuttings in a vase, or some wicker pumpkins in different sizes. These touches, combined with weather that’s actually cool enough to run the fireplace, will transform your space from summer to fall-ready in no time flat.

Go for Vintage Accents

Fall Décor Copper

I’ve seen a lot of copper floating around on Pinterest boards and Instagram ads, and I’m loving it. We’ve got a few vintage copper mugs in our house as well, and they always seem to come out to play in the fall. And with good reason: vintage-looking hammered copper is right at home alongside the warm colours and textures mentioned earlier in this post!

Don’t Forget the Guest Room!

Fall Bedroom Décor

Living and dining rooms aren’t the only places you can add a dash of fall décor, you know 🙂 you can spice up your bedroom décor too. Lose the thin cotton sheets for heavier flannels, and your guests will thank you – especially if your guest room is in the basement! Then add a few decorative candles and vintage touches for the night table, and you’ve got a cozy room that you may have trouble getting your guests to leave.

Wrapping it Up

I don’t know what it is about fall, but I always get into a decorating mood when September’s around the corner. There’s just something about sipping a hot spiced wine under a warm blanket with all the fall touches out that makes me sink into the couch and think to myself “yeah, this is where it’s at.” Maybe I’ll share the recipe for that in next week’s post – it’ll warm the cockles of your heart!
